Happy Birthday Gene Hackman
90 today. And a absolute movie legend. Made some classics and the odd stinker. But a film was always better with his presence onscreen. Retired from acting over ten years ago. And enjoying he’s time off by writing.

Happy Birthday Popeye.

No Way Out is a pretty good film as well, even if it has got Kevin Costner in it.

Personally, I think one of his greatest acting performances, is in Mississippi Burning

One of the very best of his generation. Underrated in relative terms.

One of my favourite actors. Loved that film where he's an ageing dad and his son (Matt Dillon, I think) is embarrassed by him as we all are of our dad at some period. Then it turns out that's he's a sleeping CIA agent and has to go on one final mission and his son realises who his dad truly is.

Loads of great films but he was game enough to play the blind hermit in Young Frankenstein - good on him

Never seen The Conversation, has it aged well as a film?

If I think Gene Hackman the first film that comes to mind is Superman!
